Laboratory Notes #001

The cracks in the foundation continue to expand, and their effects have become increasingly difficult to ignore. Water has begun entering the lower levels of the laboratory, creating a damp and stagnant environment beneath the workshop. This situation will require remediation in the near future. The structural deficiencies appear to have created an additional complication.

Today, an animal gained access to the laboratory.

The specimen was first observed as a rapid flash of orange and black moving along the edge of my workbench while I was occupied with an ongoing experiment. Upon closer inspection, it was identified as Taricha granulosa, commonly known as the rough-skinned newt.

The specimen was temporarily contained within a glass vessel to allow work to continue uninterrupted. This arrangement proved less effective than anticipated.

Several minutes later, a loud crash was heard from across the laboratory. Investigation revealed that the specimen had somehow overturned the container, sending both itself and the vessel to the floor.

As this event likely served as an important practical lesson regarding gravity, I deemed the name Sir Isaac Newt appropriate. The specimen departed before further observations could be conducted. Subsequent attempts to remove Sir Isaac Newt from laboratory operations have met with limited success.

Most concerningly, he appears to have no intention of leaving.
